1/2″ ToughRock® Gypsum Sheathing and 5/8″ ToughRock® Fireguard X® Gypsum Sheathing

1/2″ ToughRock® Gypsum Sheathing and 5/8” ToughRock® Fireguard X® Sheathing are recommended for use in new building construction or renovation work that is covered by an exterior finish cladding such as vinyl/fiber cement siding, masonry veneer or wire lath stucco.1 It is designed for direct mechanical attachment to wood or steel framing. 5/8” ToughRock Fireguard X Sheathing is UL and ULC classified Type X for use in a variety of fire-rated assemblies.2 ToughRock Sheathing is manufactured to meet the requirements of ASTM C1396, Section 9, and CSA-A82.27-M and Federal Specification SS-L-30D, Type II, Grade W, X and should be installed per ASTM C1280 and Gypsum Association documents GA-253 and GA-254

1ToughRock® Sheathing is not intended for long-term exposure to the weather. Local weather conditions will dictate the length of time sheathing may be left exposed. The sheathing should be covered by an exterior finish cladding or building felt or equivalent protection if weather conditions will be severe during construction. 2Consult UL Fire Resistance Directory for assembly information

Does ToughRock® Sheathing carry an exposure warranty?
Answer

Georgia-Pacific Gypsum does not offer a limited warranty for ToughRock Sheathing for exposure to weather conditions. Per the Gypsum Association publication, GA-253, the product needs to be covered with a weather-resistive barrier within 30 days of installation. If you require a product that does have a limited warranty for exposure to normal weather conditions, consider using DensGlass® Sheathing or DensElement® Sheathing.
